Mohammed Ameenuddin: From Makkah to Marathons
Mohammed Ameenuddin was born and raised in the holy city of Makkah. Early on, he pursued higher education in India and later in London, cultivating a professional foundation that would guide his career as a project management professional. By day, he manages complex projects, and by night, he channels his creative side as a writer and poet. Despite his busy schedule, Mohammed’s life took a transformative turn in 2017 when he weighed 130 kilograms. Realizing that his health was affecting both his body and lifestyle, he decided to make a change. What began as casual treadmill workouts gradually evolved into a serious fitness journey, driven by determination and a desire to inspire those around him. Today, Mohammed is not only a dedicated professional and writer but also a committed runner preparing for one of the most challenging ultra-marathons in Europe.
A Turning Point: The Beginning of the Fitness Journey
In 2017, Mohammed faced the realities of being overweight. Shopping for 3XL clothing became a stressful task, making him reflect on his lifestyle choices. Initially, he began using the treadmill, shedding a few kilos, but the changes were not significant enough. In 2018, personal challenges affected his physical and mental health further, making him realize the importance of consistency and determination. His first major breakthrough came in November 2018 when he joined a local running event. It was his first ever 10K run, which took him approximately 70 to 80 minutes to complete. This experience was transformative. Running became a therapy, lifting his spirits and changing his outlook on life. By 2019, Mohammed had joined his first marathon in Dubai, completing it despite minimal training and knowledge about long-distance running. That achievement sparked a deeper commitment, turning what started as a hobby into a serious passion.
Running as Therapy and Life Transformation
Running soon became more than just physical exercise for Ameen; it evolved into a powerful tool for managing stress, gaining mental clarity, and pursuing personal goals. Over the years, he has taken part in numerous marathons and ultra-marathons, building a strong reputation for endurance and discipline. His notable achievements include the New York Marathon in 2019, Eco Trail AlUla in 2020, the Ultra-Trail Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the Ultra Mirage Sahara Desert Ultra Marathon in Tunisia in 2021, the Al Himam Trail Race in Oman, and the Riyadh Marathon in 2022.
Among these, the Ultra Mirage Sahara stands out as one of Ameen’s most defining experiences. Preparing for the race demanded extraordinary commitment, particularly during the intense Saudi summer. He would often drive alone for an hour to reach remote desert trails, training solo through long runs and strength sessions. This relentless routine not only strengthened his physical stamina but also forged deep mental resilience. Crossing the finish line was especially emotional, as his daughter watched him complete the race for the first time an unforgettable moment that reaffirmed his purpose and passion for endurance running.
preparing for many races
Looking ahead, Mohammed continues to challenge himself through demanding trail-running events that test both physical endurance and mental resilience. He often compares elite trail races to what FIFA represents in football—global, prestigious, and deeply demanding. For Mohammed, trail running is about immersion in nature and personal discovery. “These races are tough and brutal, but they bring out your true potential,” he says, reflecting on how the sport has helped him grow both as an athlete and as an individual.
The Discipline Behind the Journey
Achieving such goals requires a disciplined approach to training and life. Mohammed follows a structured routine to balance his professional responsibilities, family life, and training regimen. His typical day begins at 3:00 in the morning with hydration, meditation, and a small pre-run meal of dates and black coffee. After his run, he focuses on strength training before returning home for breakfast and starting his professional workday. Nutrition plays a crucial role in his preparation. With the support of his wife, Mohammed preps and cooks his meals to ensure balanced portions and optimal nutrients, vital for endurance training and recovery. Training in Riyadh’s extreme summer heat adds another layer of challenge, teaching him the importance of hydration, recovery, and mental toughness.
Balancing Life and Fitness
Balancing training with personal and professional responsibilities is never easy. Mohammed manages to maintain his routine by integrating workouts into his daily schedule, particularly early morning sessions that allow time for rest and family life. He emphasizes that fitness goals not only enhance personal health but also inspire family and community members to adopt healthier lifestyles. He advises beginners to start running gradually, focusing on goal-oriented progress rather than competing with others. “Running is a heuristic process. Do it not to be faster or better than others but to be a better version of yourself,” he says. By staying motivated and disciplined, Mohammed has continued to grow both physically and mentally, turning challenges into opportunities for self-improvement.

Inspiration and Motivation
Mohammed’s journey from an overweight professional to an ultra-marathon runner reflects resilience, dedication, and a desire to inspire others. He believes motivation is temporary, but discipline is permanent, quoting himself: “Motivation will always be a temporary guest. Make discipline your permanent everyday partner.” His story is a testament to the power of determination. Through consistent effort, he has transformed his life, proving that professional commitments and personal passions can coexist with disciplined training and healthy living.
The Road Ahead
As Ameen continues his endurance journey, he remains focused on training for several major upcoming races. His story stands as a source of inspiration for many one that reflects transformation, discipline, and inner strength. From overcoming weight and health challenges to mastering ultra-marathon terrain, Ameen’s journey embodies persistence, courage, and self-discovery.
Running for Ameen is far more than a sport; it is a way of life that has shaped his daily routines, mental resilience, and personal philosophy. Through consistent training and unwavering commitment, he continues to push the boundaries of his potential. His journey reminds us that no matter where one begins, dedication and belief can turn challenges into milestones. Whether as a project manager, poet, or endurance athlete, Ameen Ameenuddin exemplifies perseverance, balance, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in every aspect of life.
