Media City Qatar Attracts Over 100 Companies at Web Summit Qatar 2025

Qatar’s Media Sector Experiences Unprecedented Growth During Major Tech Event

During the Web Summit Qatar 2025, held from February 23 to 26, Media City Qatar achieved a significant milestone by attracting over 100 companies seeking registration within just four days. This surge underscores the nation’s expanding media ecosystem and its appeal as a burgeoning global media hub.

Streamlined Registration Through Strategic Partnership

The influx of registrations was facilitated by a strategic partnership between Media City Qatar and the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), established under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in January 2024. This collaboration allows pre-approved media companies to benefit from a streamlined registration process through QFC, enabling them to operate under permitted activities with ease. Notably, entities that registered during the summit are set to receive significant incentives, including a waiver on registration and annual fees for the first four years.

Leadership’s Vision for a Vibrant Media Industry

Engineer Jassim Mohamed Al Khori, CEO of Media City Qatar, expressed enthusiasm about the overwhelming interest shown by companies at the summit. He remarked that this level of engagement is a testament to the growing appeal of Qatar’s media sector and the robustness of its expanding ecosystem. Al Khori emphasized that these new partnerships are poised to introduce fresh ideas, diverse expertise, and novel opportunities, contributing to a more vibrant and competitive industry. He further highlighted that by continually broadening their network, Media City Qatar is directly supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to drive the growth of a knowledge-based economy and position the country as a global destination for media and innovation.

Active Participation and Strategic Collaborations at the Summit

Beyond facilitating registrations, Media City Qatar played a pivotal role at the Web Summit Qatar 2025. The organization sponsored the Media Village, a dynamic space that hosted over 600 international journalists and industry leaders, fostering connections and the exchange of insights. Additionally, Media City Qatar engaged with visitors, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, investors, companies, and startups at its strategic booth within the Startup Qatar Pavilion, an initiative by Invest Qatar.

Demonstrating its commitment to innovation, Media City Qatar signed an MoU with Huawei on February 24 for the development of a state-of-the-art smart media campus. This collaboration aims to accelerate digital transformation in Qatar’s media sector by integrating advanced AI-powered access control, intelligent shared space asset management, an integrated multi-cloud media platform, and next-generation storage architecture for media content. The initiative seeks to elevate customer experiences within Qatar’s media and entertainment sector.

Qatar’s Growing Appeal in the Global Tech Arena

The success of Media City Qatar at the summit reflects a broader trend of Qatar’s increasing attractiveness in the global technology and innovation sectors. The Web Summit Qatar 2025 concluded with the signing of 56 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Qatari and international entities, reinforcing Qatar’s commitment to fostering innovation and strategic partnerships. These agreements spanned various sectors, including government, private enterprises, and startups, highlighting Qatar’s dedication to building a world-class business ecosystem and accelerating digital transformation.

Furthermore, the summit witnessed a remarkable 90% increase in Qatari startup participation compared to the previous year. Over 190 Qatari startups joined the event, accounting for 13% of the total participants. This surge underscores the nation’s commitment to nurturing its local tech sector in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasizes economic diversification and sustainability.

Conclusion

Media City Qatar’s achievements during the Web Summit Qatar 2025 highlight the nation’s strategic efforts to position itself as a global media and innovation hub. Through strategic partnerships, streamlined processes, and a commitment to digital transformation, Qatar continues to build a vibrant and competitive media industry that attracts global attention and investment.
