Anjali Rengan: The Artist Making Calligraphy Personal in Riyadh
In the heart of Riyadh, where tradition meets modernity and stories often unfold through art, Anjali Rengan is writing her own: visually, elegantly, and live. An architect by training and an artist by instinct, Anjali has built a creative career that merges structure with soul — offering calligraphy, engraving, and illustration under her brand, Anjaligraphy. Her work has become a go-to for luxury brands seeking a meaningful, human touch in their experiences, and Anjaligraphy has become synonymous with elegance and personalization in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
From Floor Plans to Flourishes
Anjali was born in India and raised in Saudi Arabia, but it was in Riyadh where her artistic path truly took root. After completing her architectural studies, she found herself drawn more and more to the handwritten form. In 2016, what began as a creative side pursuit turned into a full-time calling — a leap from blueprints to brushstrokes.
Her training in architecture didn’t go to waste — it shows in the way she approaches calligraphy with balance, detail, and an eye for composition. This blend of technical skill and artistic flair gives her work its distinct identity: deeply personal, yet professionally sharp. That combination has helped her stand out in Riyadh’s ever-evolving art scene.
A Brand Built on Intention
With Anjaligraphy, Anjali offers more than beautiful lettering. Each project is crafted with intention — whether it’s a wedding keepsake, a live event, or a bespoke gift. Her dedication to her craft has led to collaborations with over 100 luxury brands and participation in more than 400 events across the Kingdom. Her portfolio includes renowned names like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, YSL Beauty, and Montblanc.
One standout moment in her journey was when she was invited by Louis Vuitton to create live paper silhouette art — cutting guest profiles entirely by hand, simply by observing them. “It was unlike anything I’d done before,” she says. “No ink, no brushes — just scissors and focus. People were stunned seeing their side profiles come to life on paper in a matter of minutes.” Events like these reflect her ability to work across mediums and to bring people’s stories to life in creative and memorable ways.
Another memorable project was her live engraving for Tarte Cosmetics during a VIP suhoor at Maiz Riyadh, where she personalized Life Lock setting sprays for attendees. These immersive experiences are where her art becomes a storytelling tool — a way to connect people with brands, memories, and each other.
The Magic of Live Work
Live art is where Anjali truly shines. Whether she’s engraving perfume bottles at a brand activation, sketching fashion silhouettes at a launch party, or doing on-site calligraphy at weddings, she brings an energy that guests remember long after the event is over. Her work is thoughtful, elegant, and fast — yet never rushed.
What sets her apart isn’t just her technique, but the experience she creates for people. As she puts it, “There’s something special about creating something right in front of someone — watching their name or story appear in real time. It’s intimate and unforgettable.” Her live sessions are more than performances — they’re interactive, personal, and magical.

Beyond Riyadh
While based in the capital, Anjali’s work has taken her across cities like Jeddah and Khobar, where she’s brought her signature style to luxury events and activations. In 2023, she reached an international milestone by representing her art at MAPIC Cannes in France through a collaboration with Cenomi. Participating in one of the world’s leading retail real estate events marked a proud moment — showcasing how far her journey has come and hinting at how much further it can go.
Teaching & Creating Community
Teaching is another passion Anjali holds close to her heart. Over the years, she has conducted numerous workshops — both in-person and online — covering calligraphy, watercolor techniques, and digital art. She has mentored over 35 students, guiding them in discovering their artistic voices and building a community of emerging talent.
Recently, she has also been conducting workshops for luxury brands including Montblanc, Piaget, and Roberto Coin, weaving creativity into curated brand experiences and making art more accessible and interactive. Her teaching is as much about nurturing confidence and curiosity as it is about skill. Whether helping a beginner hold a calligraphy pen for the first time or guiding a luxury client through a bespoke art session, Anjali teaches with patience, warmth, and depth.
A Career with Heart
Anjali’s creative journey is adorned with milestones and accolades. She has exhibited her work at esteemed platforms such as Mawhub Art Gallery and participated in dynamic events like Comic-Con Jeddah. Her artistic offerings span a wide range — from calligraphy and hand engraving to leather painting, custom fashion illustrations, and digital wedding invites.
Her adaptability across formats and materials — including glass, paper, canvas, ceramic, leather, and fabric — reflects her willingness to experiment and evolve. At the core of all her work is a desire to create pieces that are not just beautiful, but meaningful.
Gratitude & Grounding
For Anjali, this journey is one she holds with deep gratitude. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned,” she says, “it’s that no success happens in isolation.” She credits her faith, her husband, daughter, and family for their unwavering support, along with the clients who have trusted her with their visions. “Their support is why I’m here,” she adds. “I don’t take that lightly.”
