Qais Al-Khonji :Early Life and Education
Born in Muscat, Oman, in 1978, Qais Al-Khonji hails from a family deeply rooted in entrepreneurship. His relatives, Ahmed and Mohammed Al-Khonji, have established reputable real estate ventures across Oman, Dubai, and the United Kingdom. This familial backdrop instilled in Qais a passion for business from a young age.
In 1998, Qais graduated from the Atlantic College in Wales. He furthered his education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, in 2001. Armed with academic knowledge and a familial legacy of entrepreneurship, Qais was poised to make his mark in the business world.
Venturing into the Business World
Qais’s initial foray into the professional realm was in the banking sector. However, his entrepreneurial spirit soon beckoned him to explore independent ventures. In 2010, he founded his first company, Qais United Agency, focusing on importing and selling a Chinese water distillation system to the Omani market. Despite his enthusiasm, the venture faced challenges due to a misreading of market demands, leading to its closure in 2011.
Undeterred by this setback, Qais viewed it as a learning experience. He recognized the importance of understanding the local market intricacies and the need for adaptability in business strategies.
Rising from Setbacks
The closure of his first venture did not deter Qais. In 2012, he launched four new companies spanning various sectors, including education, health tourism, electrical coating technology, and digital meters for water and electricity. Unfortunately, three of these ventures did not achieve the desired success and were subsequently closed.
These experiences, while challenging, fortified Qais’s resolve. He learned the value of resilience, market research, and the importance of aligning business offerings with local needs.

Achieving Success
In 2013, Qais’s perseverance bore fruit with the establishment of Genesis International. This company specializes in providing IT solutions and is actively involved in implementing smart city initiatives. One of their notable projects includes facilitating electronic payment systems for utility bills, aiming to modernize infrastructure in Muscat and parts of India.
Building on this success, Qais founded Genesis Projects and Investments in the same year. This venture focuses on the oil and gas sector, specifically in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques. The company’s innovative approach has positioned it as a significant player in Oman’s energy industry.
Contributions to the Community
Beyond his business ventures, Qais is deeply committed to fostering entrepreneurship among Omani youth. Since 2011, he has been a board member of the Youth Projects Development Fund (Sharakah), an organization dedicated to supporting young entrepreneurs in overcoming challenges associated with launching small and medium-sized enterprises.

His dedication to community development is further exemplified by his roles on the boards of several prominent Omani companies. These include the Oman Fisheries Company since 2006, the Oman National Engineering and Investment Company since 2009, and Muscat National Holding since 2013. Through these positions, Qais has influenced various sectors, from fisheries to engineering and investment.
International Recognition
Qais’s efforts have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. The Omani government appointed him as a representative in a delegation of entrepreneurs to meet with former Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The discussions centered on enhancing Indo-Omani trade relations, underscoring Qais’s role as a bridge between Omani businesses and international markets.
Personal Life
Despite his professional commitments, Qais values his personal life. He is married and a father to three children: Zaina, Mahmoud, and Hala. Balancing family life with the demands of entrepreneurship, Qais ensures that he remains present for his family while pursuing his business ambitions.
