Back in 2008, Noura Marafi’s life looked very different. She was a full-time working mother of three, struggling with obesity, depression, and a recent diagnosis of Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism—an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid and can severely impact energy, metabolism, and weight. At the time, Noura was not just unwell physically but emotionally drained and mentally overwhelmed.

Today, she’s a certified strength training coach, long-distance runner, marathon finisher, and powerlifting champion, known as @nouraruns on Instagram. Her transformation has touched hundreds, and her mission is simple but powerful: to inspire others to take control of their health through movement and consistency.

From Morbid Obesity to Marathon Finisher

When Noura began her fitness journey, she never imagined where it would take her. At her lowest point in 2008, her health was on a steep decline. “I was obese, depressed, and constantly tired. I knew I had to do something, but I had no idea where to begin,” she recalls.

The biggest hurdle wasn’t just her illness—it was managing her time as a busy mom. “My greatest challenge was fitting in exercise while working full-time and raising three young kids,” she says. But instead of giving up, Noura made a plan. With determination and smart time management, she carved out an hour five times a week for herself.

It didn’t happen overnight, but the impact was profound. She started to lose weight, gain energy, and feel mentally stronger. Over time, those five hours a week added up—not just to better health, but to a new identity. “That commitment turned me into the long-distance runner I am today,” she proudly shares.

First Powerlifting Win at Age 41

One of Noura’s most recent achievements is one she holds especially close to her heart. In June 2024, she entered her first Powerlifting Competition and came first place in her age category.

“To win on my first try was such a meaningful moment,” she says. But it wasn’t just about the medal. Noura’s goal was to show that women aged 35 and above can and should engage in strength training.

“After 35, our bodies naturally begin to lose muscle and bone density. Strength training isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about protecting our bones and staying strong as we age,” she explains. Her message is clear: it’s never too late to start building strength.

Today, she trains clients in both private and group strength classes. With every session, she shares the knowledge she’s gained through years of lived experience, motivating others to get stronger and feel better in their own skin.

Marathon Dreams Turned Reality

In November 2024, Noura checked off another incredible milestone: finishing her first full marathon.

“This was something I never imagined I could do,” she says. “The old version of me would have laughed at the idea of running 42 kilometers. But once you decide, commit, and stay consistent, the impossible becomes possible.”

Running long distances is more than a physical challenge for Noura—it’s a mental and emotional victory. Every kilometer she runs is proof that consistent effort, no matter how slow, leads to transformation.

By sharing her marathon journey online, she encourages others to dream big and set goals that scare them just a little. “That’s where the growth is,” she believes.

Creating a Movement Through Movement

Noura’s vision for the future goes beyond personal achievements. She’s building a community of women who support each other in getting stronger, healthier, and more confident.

She now offers strength training sessions both privately and in group settings, helping women overcome fear and intimidation around weightlifting. Her sessions focus not just on the physical aspect of training, but also on building mental resilience and motivation.

“We all go through daily life stressors. If we don’t take care of our physical health, those stresses begin to take a toll,” she says. “But if we just commit to small changes, like moving more and eating better, we can change our lives.”

Noura’s Message: Stay Consistent, You’re Already There

When asked about her advice to others starting their health journey, Noura’s words are full of wisdom:

“Stay consistent, no matter how hard it gets. There will be good days and bad days, but if you keep going, you’ll get there in no time.”

This mantra has helped her through moments of self-doubt, fatigue, and frustration. It’s also what she now passes on to her clients and followers.

“Don’t worry about being perfect. Just keep going. Every step you take is one step closer to your healthiest self,” she says.

For Noura, fitness is not about being the fittest person in the room. It’s about building habits that allow you to live fully, move confidently, and take care of your body and mind.

A Role Model for Women Over 35

One of the most unique aspects of Noura’s influence is her focus on women in their mid-30s and beyond. At an age where many women are told it’s too late to change, Noura is living proof that it’s never too late to begin.
