From Roger Rabbit to Real Dreams
Nahar Alhamrani remembers the exact moment his love for films was born. He was just a child when he experienced Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the cinema—a movie that combined live-action with animated characters in a way that was revolutionary for its time. For Nahar, this experience was nothing short of magical.
“That movie blew my mind,” he shares. “Seeing cartoons and real-life actors on the same screen—it opened my imagination in ways I didn’t know possible.”
That cinematic moment sparked something deep within him. It wasn’t just about enjoying movies anymore. It was about making them, creating stories that could move, entertain, and inspire others—just as Roger Rabbit had done for him.
The Power of Storytelling
Nahar grew up in Saudi Arabia during a time when cinemas didn’t exist in the country. But this didn’t stop his passion. Instead, it shaped him into a creative force determined to bring powerful stories to life through any medium possible.
“What inspires me the most is the journey a film takes you on,” he says. “If I can create something that brings people joy, moves them emotionally, or even just entertains them for a while—that gives me joy.”
For Nahar, it’s never just about the film itself. It’s about the people watching it. Their reactions—the laughter, the gasps, the tears—are what fuel his creativity.
“I enjoy people’s reactions more than anything,” he admits. “That’s when you know your work has made an impact.”
Breaking Barriers in Saudi Cinema
Nahar’s journey into content creation wasn’t smooth. When he began, Saudi Arabia didn’t have cinemas at all. The entire landscape of filmmaking in the Kingdom was limited, and opportunities were few and far between.
“The biggest challenge was waiting,” he reflects. “Waiting for cinema to exist in Saudi Arabia. But we didn’t stop creating.”
Instead of halting his dreams, the limitations pushed him to think differently. He focused on digital content, storytelling on smaller screens, and slowly built a name for himself in the local creative community.
And then, everything changed. With Saudi Arabia finally opening its doors to cinemas in recent years, a new chapter began—not just for the country, but for Nahar as well.
A Dream Realized: The Film Champions
Nahar’s proudest moment so far? Producing a feature film that actually made it to the big screen. The movie, titled Champions, was a labor of love—and a dream come true.
“Being able to produce a film and have it shown in cinemas, with people actually appreciating it—that’s been my biggest achievement so far,” he says with a smile.
Champions wasn’t just a film. It was a symbol of progress. A sign that dreams which once felt out of reach could now become reality in Saudi Arabia’s growing film industry.
Authentic Stories for a Global Audience
What sets Nahar apart is his commitment to telling authentic Saudi stories. In an era where global films often dominate the box office, Nahar believes that local stories, when told with sincerity, can be just as powerful—if not more.
“We’re working with well-known companies that have produced amazing films with small budgets,” he explains. “They’ve been more successful than some of the biggest studios out there. That’s exactly what we need for the Saudi market.”
But success, he believes, doesn’t come from rushing. It comes from letting the creative process unfold naturally.
“I like to let the project marinate and cook properly,” he says. “That’s how you ensure it appeals to a bigger audience. That’s how you make sure it’s true to who we are.”
Shaping the Future of Saudi Cinema
More than anything, Nahar hopes to inspire a new generation of film lovers and creators in Saudi Arabia. He wants young people to see the magic of cinema—not just as entertainment, but as a powerful tool for storytelling, expression, and imagination.
“Movies shaped how I think and imagine,” he says. “I want to give that same experience to others.”
He encourages aspiring filmmakers to stay open-minded and flexible.
“Always keep readjusting,” he advises. “Never settle on just one idea or one plan. Be ready to adapt. Things are always changing.”
A Story Still Unfolding
Nahar Alhamrani’s story is still being written. But what’s clear is that he’s already made a lasting mark on Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape. From childhood dreams sparked by animated classics to the real-world success of Champions, his journey is one of resilience, passion, and purpose.
As the Saudi film industry continues to grow, voices like Nahar’s are helping shape its identity—authentic, creative, and deeply connected to its roots. And in doing so, he’s not just making films. He’s creating experiences that move hearts and open minds.
