From a Childhood Spark to Global Stages

Suay stepped into the world of DJing in 2022, bringing the same passion and discipline she has for the violin into electronic music. Since then, she has built a vibrant reputation in Bahrain’s nightlife scene, hosting her own electronic music events that attracted audiences not only from Bahrain but even from Saudi Arabia. She has also collaborated with and brought several international DJs to her events, including “NODUS,” “Julian Mesa,” and “Amani Lape.”

As a DJ, Suay’s favourite genres include Afro House, Afro Arabic, Indie Dance, Tech House, and House. Despite her preferences, she is actually an Open Format DJ a rarity in today’s global landscape, especially among women DJs giving her the versatility to adapt to any crowd and any atmosphere.

Beyond performing, Suay is also stepping into music production. Her recent track, “Yemoja,” an Afro House release, has been played across the world. Her second track, an Afro Arabic creation, is set to drop very soon.

Today, Suay is a resident DJ for one of Bahrain’s biggest companies, SEVENS HOLDING, performing regularly at both the pool venue “Al Massarah” and the lounge “MOOD.”

In Bahrain, it’s almost impossible not to stumble upon Suay she’s the sound and spirit of the island’s nightlife.

A Journey Through Europe and Beyond

Suay’s talent soon led her across Europe with the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, performing in Germany, Belgium, Holland, and Greece. Between 2004 and 2007, she even performed alongside her father at the International Şile Cloth Cultural Festival, captivating audiences with their shared musical chemistry.

In 2008, Suay embraced teaching, joining Darüşşafaka High School to mentor young musicians. Her exposure to masterclasses led by world-renowned artists like Prof Lukas David, Pierre Amoyal, and Prof Joshua Epstein further enriched her artistry, shaping her into a versatile and dynamic performer.

Her festival and orchestra experiences are vast:

  • Beethoven Fest in Germany, Belgium, Holland, and Austria
  • Bursa State Symphony Orchestra with Oğuzhan Balcı
  • Turkish-Greek Orchestra conducted by Cem Mansur in Chios and Seferihisar

This journey allowed Suay to master both classical and contemporary styles, blending traditional violin techniques with modern innovations.

The Electronic Violin and Modern Beats

While classical music laid her foundation, Suay’s fascination with the electronic violin and contemporary genres transformed her performances. Influenced by artists like Vanessa Mae, she began exploring electro violin, afro beats, techno, and deep house.

Collaborations with DJs such as Burak Yeter and Funky C brought her music to clubs and festivals, merging classical artistry with modern soundscapes. Her performances at Nikki Beach Bodrum in 2016 cemented her reputation as an innovative violinist capable of bridging classical music with contemporary entertainment.

“My dream was always to play the electronic violin like Vanessa Mae. Now, every time I pick up my Yamaha 150, I live that dream,” Suay says.

Finding a Home in Bahrain

Suay’s global journey took a decisive turn in 2019 when she traveled to Bahrain. A chance meeting with the owner of three popular eateries in Manama during a three-month stint in Cannes introduced her to the island. Suay’s performances quickly captivated audiences, and she found herself drawn to Bahrain’s vibrant music and cultural scene.

“Bahrain welcomed me with open arms. The energy of the people and the appreciation for music made me fall in love instantly,” she says.

Since settling, she has become a prominent figure in Bahrain’s music scene, performing at events, lounges, and festivals, spreading positivity through every note.

Joining the Bahraini Philharmonic Orchestra

The pinnacle of her recent achievements came when Suay joined the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra.

“That is such an honor,” she shares. “Being surrounded by so many talented instrumentalists inspires me every day. Together, I hope we continue creating beautiful music that touches hearts.”

Her role in the orchestra not only allows her to showcase her classical expertise but also positions her to influence and mentor younger musicians, helping them find joy in music as she has.

Music as a Vehicle for Positivity

For Suay, music is more than an art form—it’s a tool for spreading happiness and connection. She believes that musicians have the power to uplift, inspire, and bring people together.

“Positivity is everything for me,” she says. “If someone is having a bad day, I hope to make them smile and feel the same energy that I do. We need more connections and less ego.”

Through her performances, teaching, and public appearances, Suay continues to inspire audiences and students alike, ensuring that music becomes a source of joy for all ages.

Teaching the Next Generation

Beyond performing, Suay dedicates herself to nurturing young talent. She teaches students as young as six, guiding them not only in technique but in passion, creativity, and self-expression. Her lessons are as much about life as they are about music, instilling confidence and discipline in her pupils.

“Teaching is rewarding because I see the spark in a child’s eyes when they master a piece. That spark is what keeps me going,” she explains.

Fashion, Creativity, and Beyond

Suay’s creativity is not limited to music. She also designs a fashion line made locally in Bahrain, incorporating unique fabrics and textures. This venture allows her to blend her artistic sensibilities into wearable forms, showcasing her flair for innovation beyond the violin.

“My violin and fashion are two sides of the same coin—they both let me express who I am,” she says.

Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future

Suay’s ambitions extend beyond Bahrain and the orchestra stage. She dreams of launching an international music company that will also host events, bringing artists and audiences together on a global scale.
