Saudi Arabia Emerges as a Global Leader in Humanitarian Aid
Saudi Arabia has firmly established itself as one of the world’s leading forces in global humanitarian aid, showcasing an unwavering dedication to reducing human suffering and supporting vulnerable communities worldwide. Since 1975, the Kingdom has provided approximately $131 billion in development assistance, extending its generosity to 171 countries across continents. This extensive effort includes more than 7,090 projects covering crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, food security, infrastructure development, and emergency relief.
The Kingdom’s consistent and strategic approach to humanitarian work has earned it a place among the top four global donors of humanitarian and relief aid. By the end of 2023, Saudi Arabia contributed a significant $1.2 billion, accounting for 3.6% of total aid provided globally by donor countries to developing nations and crisis-hit regions, according to data from the United Nations Financial Tracking Service.
This remarkable contribution reflects Saudi Arabia’s evolving humanitarian vision—one that goes beyond financial assistance and focuses on sustainable development, emergency relief, and long-term support for millions of people impacted by poverty, conflict, and natural disasters.
KSrelief: The Heart of Saudi Arabia’s Aid Mission
A key driver of the Kingdom’s humanitarian vision is the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), established in 2015. Since its creation, KSrelief has played a pivotal role in delivering assistance across the globe, implementing over 3,009 humanitarian projects in 100 countries. The total value of these initiatives exceeds $6.94 billion, directly benefiting millions of impoverished, displaced, and marginalized individuals.

KSrelief operates in various sectors, including food security, health services, protection, water and sanitation, education, and shelter. Its hands-on approach, combined with strategic partnerships with international humanitarian organizations, has positioned it as a model of efficient and transparent aid delivery.
Focused Humanitarian Response in Conflict Zones
Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian footprint is particularly evident in regions affected by prolonged conflicts and humanitarian disasters. One of its largest and longest-standing commitments is to Yemen. The Kingdom has emerged as the world’s biggest donor of humanitarian aid to Yemen, having pledged $18 billion over six years to address the country’s devastating humanitarian crisis.

In 2023 alone, Saudi Arabia allocated $848 million in emergency financial aid to Yemen. Its initiatives include critical programs such as the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance (MASAM), the establishment of Artificial Limbs Centers, and the Reintegration Program for Children Associated with Armed Conflict. These efforts aim to provide not only immediate relief but also long-term rehabilitation and safety for affected Yemeni communities.
The Kingdom’s compassion is also evident in Gaza, where KSrelief launched both air and sea bridges to deliver urgent humanitarian supplies. The assistance package included food, shelter, and medical aid valued at $185 million.
